With only two Democratic Senate seats considered "at risk" in the 2008 election (Mary Landrieu and Tim Johnson), and as many as 15 Republican seats "at risk," think state-by-state about your "dream" candidates---the ones who could take the seat and expand the Democratic majority.
I know election 2006 is just over, but candidate recruitment for the 2008 federal, state and municipal elections begins now. Dr. Dean's 50 state strategy was a huge success, as seen by the emergence of strong Democratic candidates in places from New York to Idaho to Wyoming.
Even if you live in an overwhelmingly Republican district, consider running for office. Contesting every state legislative and congressional district in 2008 will help our statewide candidates greatly.
Every election day I find myself torn between working for candidate/party of my choice and my county election board. Poll workers are getting older, dying, and aren't being replaced with fresh blood. The result is longer lines, larger precincts, and even delayed openings. Understaffed election boards at the precinct level contribute to errors, including vote fraud.
This year I've decided to work for the county as a precinct manager, called an "inspector" here. I supervise a staff of two partisan judges (one from each party) and two partisan clerks (again one from each party). However, a precinct can operate with only one of each position, and with the understaffing issue that is almost always the case.
What would/do you do on election day?
If the numbers are right, Meehan has almost $5 Million in the bank. For what? He's got one of the safest districts in the country. Can we say Self Promoter? He's waiting for Teddy to retire. What a chump. The DNC or DCCC could really use that money now.
